Brown Sugar Panna Cotta and Dressing up for Halloween...

Burrrrr....its so cold here! Well, I'm probably overreacting just a little, but its freezing to me. Layers, scarves, and double socks; and we aren't even outside. I'm cold to the bones. I'm pretty sure we are done with warmer weather until spring.

This past weekend was spent celebrating Halloween, we went to a party up in the mountains. A blast was had by all! Halloween has to be one of my favorite holidays, I love dressing up! Boo and I dressed as a couple of Chicago legends, he was Harry Caray and I was Mike Ditka. It was such a blast! What's your costume this year?

Ditka is infamous for giving the bird!

Now onto a tasty dessert...Brown Sugar Panna Cotta. What can I say? This lightly sweet, creamy, confection is a little slice of heaven. Panna Cotta is so easy to make, requires hardly any skill or equipment and its a great way to use up some of that extra cream you have laying around. This recipe  would be awesome with some caramel apples or roasted pears. The ideas are endless, really.

The Buttermilk in this recipe lends a slightly acidic taste which really rounds out the heaviness of the heavy cream.

This would be really nice for Thanksgiving that is coming up, your guests would surely be impressed. Panna Cotta is one of those desserts that come off really elegant, yet effortless.

Do you have your Thanksgiving desserts picked out?

Brown Sugar Panna Cotta

serves 4-6, depending on serving dish

1 Cup Buttermilk
2 Cups Heavy Cream
1/3 Cup Dark Brown Sugar
2 tsp. powdered Gelatin, bloomed
1 teaspoon Vanilla

Bloom Gelatin.
Heat gelatin, brown sugar, and 1 Cup of cream in sauce pan, just long enough to melt the gelatin, let cool.
In a bowl, mix together remaining cream, buttermilk, and gelatin/cream mixture and stir to combine.
Pour into glassware or serving dish and chill in refrigerator for 6-8 hours.
Serve cold with desired topping or as is.

  1. Oh my gosh, your costume is hilarious! I'm not dressing up this year (I know, bah humbug), but Stella is being a spider…and a cat on some days!

    1. Thanks Jamie, it was a lot of fun. I saw cute Stella's spider costume, adorable! I made Liam a Batman costume this year, cannot get him out of it.
